Imperial Washi
Shin Danshi
Shin Danshi is a Japanese fine paper with an extremely long history. The name literally means “new Danshi” and refers to the traditional Danshi-Washi, which was once used in ceremonies at the Japanese imperial court. Danshi-Washi was reserved for imperial rituals, priests, and documents of traditional Japanese arts—and its characteristic fine creases required a unique technique passed down through generations. Shin Danshi makes this tradition accessible—to anyone who appreciates exceptional paper.
A surface like no other
What makes Shin Danshi distinctive is its texture: the entire surface is crisscrossed by a fine, uniform pattern of folds that gives the paper a lively, almost artisanal depth. It is a soft, finely textured paper that reinterprets the feel of traditional Danshi-Washi.
What is Shin Danshi suitable for?
Shin Danshi is a paper for projects where tactile quality and origin matter—book covers, premium packaging, invitations, labels. It responds beautifully to blind embossing, hot foil stamping, and precision printing—yet always remains understated. A paper that doesn’t show off, but immediately catches the eye. Imperial.
